The Final Day Part Three

Today, those who had congressional meetings carried those on while every else went on a tour of the US Capitol Building! I met with Courtney Titus, a representative of Senator Lindsey Graham. I was nervous because I thought I would be late or get lost, or that I wouldn’t have much to say and make a fool of myself. However, she was a very down-to-earth and sincere person to talk to! The meeting went great!

After we got back from Capitol Hill they gave us time to prepare, which everyone looked great! I can’t believe this week has already come to an end. With so many events and activities packed into our days it feels like we’ve been here for much longer than that, but it’s really hitting me now that I’ll be home by this time tomorrow.

I’ve missed home, but I think I could stand a few more days in DC!

I’ll miss the people I’ve befriended and networked with, the staff and team members were great, and the information I’ve acquired here will definitely be beneficial to my career as an investigative reporter

The Final Day Part Two

There have been tons and tons of speakers, and at times the information seemed a bit redundant, and I was no longer fascinated with what some of them had to say. However, when Scott Higham and Sari Horwitz took the stage last night, all of that flew out of the window. Hearing about their work on the Chandra Levy (Leevy?) story was very compelling and I found myself up out of my seat dying to ask a question. The nature of investigative journalism has always fascinated me, but to be in the presence of two award winning investigative reporters was a real treat for me!

The Final Day Part 1

I decided to wait to do my blog for the past couple of days because I’ve been so exhausted. However, with us getting in a little bit later from the gala (which was great by the way) I’ve decided just to pull an all-nighter and get my rest on the way home. I can definitely say this has been one of the best weeks of my life where I’ve met people and made memories that I will cherish forever.

I’ll start with our visit to the National Press Club. While Chuck Todd and the other panelists were entertaining, none of them reached on the level that Hodo Kotb did. I knew her speech would be interesting because of two things: 1) She played ” Black and Yellow” by Wiz Khalifa (and knew all the words) , and 2) she didn’t use any cards.

I became fascinated with the woman standing in front of us sharing her story of rejection, perseverance, peaks, and valleys. She was so genuine, which is something that allowed her to create more of an impact on me than the other speakers. You can always tell when someone loves their job and they’re passionate about it, which are two things that are vital in any profession of journalism and media.

I really enjoyed her speech, and I’ll definitely be reading her book when I return to Columbia !

The First Full Day

Today was a pretty full day. I knew coming into this conference that it would be rigorous and jam packed, but I didn’t realize I would be this exhausted at the end of every day. It’s all worth it though to be able to tell people that I’m attending the Washington Journalism and Media Conference. Who gets to say that everyday?

Time to get some rest ! Hoda Kotb is our keynote speaker tomorrow !
